So....

Yeah, it's been a while. So what? You want to fight about it? Today was just too strange not to catalogue in some way. I kept smelling people I know. Is that weird? Yeah, I thought so too. I went into work today and my boss smelled like my Dad used to smell, like stale shirts and expensive scotch. It was only for a second while we were passing in a hallway but it was exactly the same smell. It was like I had just left my Dad's office or was sitting in a restaurant with him having a casual conversation. I never realized how great a person's smell is. A little while later I was helping one of my customer's, an elderly gentleman, and he smelled exactly like Pops (my grandfather, 85 who coincidentally was admitted to the hospital today). The smell was of baby powder, moth balls and old skin. Another fantastically comforting smell. Again only for a second, and again it was the exact same smell. It's just strange that I never thought about how well I can identify people by their smell. If I hang out with someone pretty regularly, I can tell when they change their deodorant, shampoo, or fabric softener. Is that weird? I don't know. It seems pretty normal to me. The strange thing is how those smells all combine to make an olfactory image of someone. When I smell that smell I start looking around the room for the person. I haven't smelled (or smelt? Who knows) my Dad in a few years and Pop's smell has been sterilized by retirement home stench for longer than I can remember, but I know the smell instantly. Just a really weird nose day...Weird nose day....Ok, that means I need sleep. Good night and God bless.
