Thought Explosion

I was eating lunch with my wife today, it was nice. We were both tired because we have not been sleeping well at night, so we were pretty quiet. I was thinking about something. Really hard. The kind of thinking that consumes every aspect of your conciousness and eradicates the existance of the outside world. It felt like the more I concentrated on it, the more real it became, like my thoughts alone were enough to physically manifest this idea.

Her Suddenly, "David! Did you hear me? We need to get the cat fixed."

Me "..."

Crap. Not only is Merlin going to lose both his testicles in a horibly emasculating ritual, but now I have absolutely NO idea what I was just thinking about. Just moments before you could have slapped me and the idea would have reached out and stopped your hand. "Excuse me," it would say. "Can't you see we are deeply engaged here?" But now I can't even remember what it was I was so totaly engaged with. I have heard of the "Brain Fart" but those you can generally recover from if you trace your thoughts or the flow of a conversation back long enough. This was more final. This was total mental eradication. It's like the words had set off a bomb in my head that devastated every thought I had ever had. I was left thinking "Huh, what?" and trying to remember how to talk. I had just experienced a "Thought Explosion." A memory lapse so total adn complete that I may never remember what I was thinking about. I have tried to recover, tried to remember what I was so intently pondering but to no avail. That idea could have been so revolutionary, so important that, had I remembered it, it may have changed the coarse of history. I could have made millions off that idea but now all I've got is an idea for a bumper sticker that reads "My brain doesn't fart, it explodes!"

Now more than ever.

Let's just say that the "real" world is amazing. I recently began work at my first job in my field of study since graduating from colege and I am loving it. After working my way through school with 18+ course hours and 20+ work hours a week having a "real" job is like a vacation. Before I was in class for about five hours hours a day, at work for six to eight hours and working on homework late into the night. Now I am done with work at four...period. The amount of free time I have at the end of the day is comparativly huge.
Even while I am at work I have a ton of down time. I spend an astronomical amount of time just waiting for people get back to me. So with my ADD at an all time high, I end up being bored....alot. So this is the inaugeral post in a renewed effort to blog more often. I am going to be exploring what it's like to be ADD in the workplace and how it both hurts and helps me in getting things done.
